The Origin of the World in the Book of Genesis Essay
The Origin of the World in the Book of Genesis The origin of the world has been a topic for discussion since the early days of theology. We can all see this matter around us; the sun, moon, trees, and wildlife, but where did it all come from? The first book of the Bible, Genesis, gives two separate explanations for this phenomena. In Genesis 1:1 through 2:3 the first account of creation is given, and in Genesis 2:4 through the end of chapter two the other explanation for creation is described. These two stories depict creation in different ways, but the underlying story in Genesis 1 and 2 are fundamentally the same. In the first story of creation, Genesis 1:1 to 2:3, creation is depicted in a very orderly manner. Everythingâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦These two versions accomplish basically the same goals, how the world was formed and what the universe was like before creation, but they accomplish them each in its own way. Another variation between the two stories is in the order that nature is created. In Genesis chapter one, God first created light. Then God created the sun, moon, and stars. Next, all sea creatures are created. After that God created all the Earth creatures. God then created humankind (male and female) to rule over all that he had created. Finally God rested. In the second story God first creates the Heavenââ¬â¢s and the Earth from which water rises up to water it. Then God creates man, Adam, out of the dust of the earth. After that God creates all the animals of the earth. Finally, God creates a woman for Adam out of one of Adamââ¬â¢s own ribs. This version suggests that God only created two humans, and from them the entire population of the world was produced. Whereas, in the first version God created a number of humans, male and female, to reproduce and spread out over all the Earth. The order in which different things are created also differs between the two versions. For instance, man was created directly after the creation of the Earth in the second version , but in the first version man was the last thing that God created. Also, plants and animals were created before humans in the first version, but in theShow MoreRelatedEssay about The Study of Anthropology and the Humanities1361 Words à |à 6 Pagesanthropology is the study of humanity and the origins of human beings. The Function of Lips and Their Biological Significance Essays
The Function of Lips and Their Biological Significance Lipids are biological molecules and are insoluble in aqueous solutions but are soluble in organic solvents. Specific lipids have a physiological importance to humans; they have three major functions; serving as structural components of biological membranes, act as vitamins and hormones, provide energy storage (triaculglycerols). Lipids are made up of the elements carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Lipids can exist as fats, oils and waxes. Fat and oils are similar in structure as they are triglycerides, however, they physically differ at room temperature fats are solid and oils liquid. Their differences in property are what help contribute to itsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This is useful as fats and oils release roughly twice as much energy in comparison to carbohydrates. Triglycerides have a high proportion of hydrogen atoms relative to oxygen atoms and therefore yield more energy compared to carbohydrates; this is the result of fats being reduced more than carbohydrates. As fats have a lower proportion of oxygen compared to carbohydrates more of the oxygen in respiration of fats comes from the atmosphere; equally in the oxidation of carbohydrates a greater proportion of oxygen is present in the molecule itself. Fat resultantly forms a concentrated, insoluble energy store; lipids are non-polar causing them t o be insoluble in water. Fat is significant for animals that endure long unfavourable seasons. This is due to fat conducting heat very slowly; consequently having a layer under the skin insulates metabolic heat in. Oils are a major energy store in seeds and industrially are extracted for human use. The bonds between the fatty acid chains are what make them different. The three fatty acids could be identical or not, a fatty acid may have single bonds making it a saturated lipid. These are more commonly known as fats and are solid at room temperature. Lipids can also occur as waxes or steroids depending on the structure of the lipid as well as the amount of fatty acids and glycerolââ¬â¢s.Show MoreRelatedDifferent Theories That State The Humans Are Biological And Symbolic Species1555 Words à |à 7 Pages. A Proud Filipino American Essay Example For Students
A Proud Filipino American Essay America is considered a melting pot of different ethnic groups. By todays standard, American culture is the result of a variety of races integrating their own cultural beliefs into American society. Throughout the years, the United States has seen a massive increase of people migrating from Asian countries; they make up 3. 6 percent of the U. S. population, a 199 percent increase from 1980 when they constituted only 1. 5 percent of the population (Ng). Like other immigrants, Asians come here in order to seek a better life and experience civil liberties. According to statistics, Filipino Americans today make up the second largest Asian Pacific American (APA) group in the country (Aquino). Filipinos alongside other Asians have experienced and overcome racism with great pride, honor and respect. They have made great strides in reminding us of the history that was forgotten as well as improving the common misconceptions about the Philippines and its people. The Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) was established in the early 1980s in order to promote understanding, education, enlightenment, appreciation and enrichment through the identification, gathering, preservation and dissemination of the history and culture of Filipino Americans in the United States (Cordova). FANHS has been an instrumental tool in bridging the gap between the younger and older generation as well as making a significant influence on American culture by designating October as the month for us to come together and reflect on the past, present and future. Even though it seems like we have made a positive impact in this country, it hasnt always been easy. Relations between the United States and the Philippines has been pleasant yet tumultuous at times. Even before America set foot into the country, Filipinos had endured years of abuse at the hands of Spain. The Philippines was promised that if they became allies with America to defeat Spain during the Spanish-American War of 1898, they would finally be able to govern themselves. The signing of a peace treaty between the two fighting countries meant that the war was over. In order for the treaty to be valid, America had to pay Spain $20 million, which resulted in full control over the Philippines now. The Filipinos retaliated as a result of this because the opportunity of ruling their own country was out of the question. Such an act, they said, showed that the Filipinos did not want to be under American rule (Bautista). This eventually led to the Philippine-American War of 1898, which was considered by some historians as the first Vietnam because of the atrocities; The estimated American casualties were 4,000 and the estimated losses for the Filipinos were between 200,000 to 600,000 depending on what data source one looks at (Nebrida). President McKinley declared that the war was over on July 4, 1902 because of the casualties that were being reported overseas. The end of this historical event was a chance for both countries to heal old wounds and start over again. After the war ended in 1902, United States was on a mission to repair the damages that the Philippines had endured; they wanted to win back the trust of its people. President McKinley created laws that gave the Philippines some of the same provisions as America regarding government structure. According to Sonia M. Zaide, an expert Filipino historian, the Philippines was on its way to rebuilding itself: Under the new regime agriculture developed rapidly, commerce and trade soared to unprecedented levels, transportation and communication were modernized, banking and currency improved, the manufacturing industries were transformed. As compared with the Spanish era, economic progress of the Philippines during the American era forged ahead with great strides. (291) The economy as well as education was improving dramatically. Teachers, also known as Thomasites, were sent over to the Philippines to teach school-aged children about American government policy. Educated young men, also known as pensionados, were sent to United State universities in 1903 in order to come back home and hopefully become future political leaders. (Zaide 303-304) This started the wave of Filipinos wanting to migrate to the states is search of unlimited opportunities. .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c , .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .postImageUrl , .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c , .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:hover , .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:visited , .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:active { border:0!important; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:active , .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub9dffd8557c31afb80e7b65da0f8d82c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: History Of The Computer Industry In America (2573 words) EssayThere have been sporadic movement of Filipinos stepping foot onto American soil. During 1907 up until about 1930, they were forced to become hired help assigned to the sugar plantations in Hawaii, underpaid and living in poor conditions. There were brief periods in which Filipinos were not allowed to step foot into America, but after acquiring independence from the United States in 1946, there was an increase of migration to the states. Ever since then, the Filipino race has been steadily growing here. Minority groups that have chosen to make America their home have triumphed over many bumps in the road for free dom. My ancestors have experienced negative moments in the past with white Europeans. Just like African Americans and Irish, they suffered derogative name-calling and racial slurs on a daily basis. They had to constantly deal with humiliating signs prohibiting them from entering business establishments. (Aquino) Instead of leaving and going back home, they chose to stay and try to weather the stormy conditions. Somehow managing to stay strong during hardships and obstacles shows how persistent Filipinos are to fight for what was promised to us. There have been some notable contributors who have made a name for themselves in the science and food industry. There are some inventions today that we depend on and currently use that were created by Filipinos. Agapito Flores, a Filipino electrician, invented the fluorescent lamp; although there has been some debate on whether he indeed was the first person responsible for this invention. Publications have claimed that no scientific report, no valid statement, no rigorous documents can be used to credit Flores for the discovery of the fluorescent lamp (txtmania). Another contribution that has had a positive impact in the medical field has been the invention of the incubator. Fe del Mundo was responsible for this life saving device that is used throughout the world helping babies survive. She was recognized for her achievements; In 1966, she received the Elizabeth Blackwell Award, for her outstanding service to mankind (txtmania). Food is considered to be the one thing that can bring people together regardless of race. Our ancestors brought their relationship and love for food with them so they would be able to pass down the recipes to their children. The Philippines most famous dish, Adobo, has a story behind its beginning. Adobo was originally a way of preserving meat and sometimes fish during long journeys. A good adobo will keep four or five days without refrigeration, says Inonog, an executive director at the Culinary Arts Division of Johnson Wales University, Providence (Philippine). The most common ingredients that are used in Filipino dishes are: garlic, vinegar, soy sauce, onions, tomatoes and pepper (Filipino). Rice, which is found in most Filipino household, is considered to be the Philippines main food staple; vegetables, meats, fish, chicken, noodles, all go into stews and soups and one-meal dishes served with rice (Philippine). Rice, which is found in most Filipino households, is considered to be the Philippines main food staple. My people along with other races are able to enjoy the delicious cuisines, which are representative of the dishes offered back home, in Filipino fast food restaurants located throughout the country. People are able to have a better appreciation of our culture and understand where we come from. Tracing the roots and history of my ancestors journey from the Philippines to the United States of America has been an enlightening experience. I have learned so many new things that my high school history books didnt cover. Im grateful to those who have come before me and continuously fought against injustices. Without their hard work and persistence, I would not be able to reap the benefits of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in this country.

Silent Ears, Silent Heart free essay sample
Silent Ears, Silent Heart I thought that Silent Ears, Silent Heart was an excellent book. It really gave you a full prospective of what a family and a person has to go through living a life without being able to hear sound it also helps you realize what someone has to go through that canââ¬â¢t hear what is going on around them. The book starts off with a couple named the Clines thereââ¬â¢s Mr. Cline who is Jack who runs his own multimillion dollar business in a glass production. His dream is to have his son at his side and follow in his footsteps and run the family business someday. Then thereââ¬â¢s Mrs. Cline who is Margret who is a stay at home wife that is waiting the arrival of their child. The book starts off with them being a typical couple awaiting the arrival of their first new born child, going back and forth to the hospital thinking that itââ¬â¢s time for the arrival of their son. The only thing that they donââ¬â¢t know and wonââ¬â¢t know for the next two years is that their son is not going to be able to hear anything; this is because Christopher was born permanently deaf. They find out latter on that he has lost the neurosensory witch is lost in the inner ear. Which ended up being because his mother was exposed to the German measles which his mother got from a baby earlier when she was carrying, which left Christopher with no chance of hearing at all. The way his mother found out, that Christopher was deaf was, one day she was getting ready for a big dinner, her husband had a business man coming over to possibly sign him to a big business deal. As she was washing the dishes she knocked over a bunch of the pots and pans thinking that it was going to upset he son she went to run over to make sure he was ok but when she looked over at him she saw that he didnââ¬â¢t flinch at all he just kept playing with his toys. So she made a lot of noise and even hit a couple pots together but still nothing thatââ¬â¢s when she realized something was wrong. When her husband got home she told her husband what had happened and that she thinks their son is deaf. He was in complete denial. For some reason he thought that if his son cannot hear that makes him stupid and a retard. Witch I found appalling. That a father could say such a thing about his own son just because he was different and could possibly have a disability. Throughout most of the book his father has a hard time excepting that his son has a problem. At one part he practically disowns his whole family. His business was having a big corporate business and his wife and son were there and one of the employees were explaining to someone else how his son was deaf and that his son is probably not going to be able to take over the family business, Mr. Clines pulls the man to the side and tells him as far as the business people know he has no family, no wife and no son which how could a father say that. The first time where I was able to see the father actually care is when his wife gets a letter in the mail asking them to register their son into a special needs program to try and get him ready for kindergarten since he will not be able to progress as quickly as the other children in class. But his mom had a very hard time letting go of her baby bay. He still was only 3 years old but thatââ¬â¢s when he needed to start learning how to communicate so that he can be ready for kindergarten. Mr. Clines signs the paper right away but his wife is still having a hard time excepting sending her son to school so early when she could keep trying to teach him at school. But one day when she is over at a neighbor house and Christopher gets very upset and is not able to tell his mother what is wrong. This is the moment she realizes that she needs to be able to communicate with her son. That is when she decides to sign the papers to send him to a school to teach him how to communicate with others. Then when Christopher was twelve new neighbors had moved in next store they had a daughter named Nicole. They were about the same age and had made a connection very quickly that they knew they were going to be best of friends. Nicole was a very shy girl and didnââ¬â¢t really know how to respond to Christopherââ¬â¢s disability yet. She had learned a little bit of sign language in school but was still too shy to try and use it with Christopher so she just avoided eye contact and stayed quiet. After a few weeks Nicole brought Christopher over to her tree house as they were up in the tree house Nicole started to fingerspell words to him, he was shocked he didnââ¬â¢t know how to react so he just didnââ¬â¢t do anything. After a while she just gave up and it was time for dinner so she left. The next day he meat back up with her and tried to redeem himself after acting weird the day before they started to communicate more and Christopher started to show her how to sine different words without finger spelling. This brought them to be even closer friends not knowing that it was the beginning of a very long relationship. Many many years later, Nicole and Christopher got married. Christopher took over the family business and brought it out of the verge of bankruptcy all on his own. Building the business up even better than before, Christopher always tried to talk to his father about the business but his farther still never really had faith in him that he could do anything since he was deaf. After a few years Jack and Margret decided to make a surprise visit to see Christopher and Nicole on there arrival they found that the business was doing better than ever and it was all because of Christopher. Jack not being able to believe that his deaf son could do such an accomplishment stuck his nose in too much. When Christopher and Nicole went to go visit her parents in Washington DC Jack decided to look at all the bank records and found out how his son was able to get the business out of bankrupted when Christopher found this out he was furies. He and his father got into a huge argument after their argument Christopher got into a huge accident at the factory and was badly hurt. He went through a long surgery but in the end wasnââ¬â¢t able to make it out. This is what it took for Jack to actually realize what he has missed in his sonââ¬â¢s life and how much he had neglected him and that his sonââ¬â¢s hearing disability didnââ¬â¢t hold him back from anything and that it didnââ¬â¢t make him any different than anyone else.
