Why it is important not to miss a military formation Essay
Why it is important not to miss a military formation - Essay Example In addition, formation has a significant role to play in keeping track of where every soldier is at all times. In other words, through formation, the leadership gets clear idea about what a particular soldier is doing and where they are located. Based on the above information, it becomes evident that if a soldier has another appointment, it is necessary to report the same to the squad leader so that the squad leader can report the same to the platoon sergeant. Being a member of the United States Army is a matter of pride. However, being a member of this great heritage means one is supposed to adhere to, and uphold the traditions, courtesies, and heritage of the army. In fact, the offence from my part can be better described as the failure to adhere to the four Rââ¬â¢s that make a soldier; right place, right time, right uniform, and right attitude. When I failed to come for the formation in time, I failed to display discipline, respect, and honor. I have to admit the fact that it i s of utmost importance in the army to be on time because it shows values like leadership, commitment, loyalty, and responsibility. In fact, being on time is very vital in military mission, because ones buddies, leadership, and the success of the mission are all heavily dependent on ones ability to be on time. In addition, in military culture, running in formation is considered as a key component of group fitness and unit morale. Furthermore, formations make it easy for the leadership to keep track of weapons. To illustrate, if the platoon sergeant wants to count the number of weapons the platoon has got, the easiest way is to hold a formation, and count the number of weapons, and can check if any details are missing from list. In addition, it becomes possible to see what equipments are missing or misplaced. In addition, such formations help in ensuring all soldiers are well aware about what to do and at what time. In addition, it helps the leadership know which soldier is located an d also at what place. Thus, I understand the fact that it is very important for me to be on time for a military formation, and that too in the right uniform. This is so because it is through military formation that the chain of command gets accountability and collects all the necessary information regarding the soldiers in the company. That means, if I fail to report in time, the entire procedure is slowed down as it becomes necessary to come and look for me, thus hurting the team, platoon and the company as a whole. In fact, morning formation is the most important formation of the day as it is this formation that makes accountability of everyone and puts out any necessary information that should be dealt with. So, missing the morning formation means having no knowledge about accountability and knowing nothing about what is going on and where everybody is. So, I understand that the offence of not showing up for formation is punishable under UCMJ article 15. In fact, one cannot ignor e the importance of formation in army. The United States Army Field Manual 3-0 describes three levels of war; strategic, operational, and tactical. In addition, it is said that the military tactics are to become instinctive through battle drills. There are principles of ambushes, seeking and turning flanks, maintaining reconnaissance, creating and using obstacles and defenses, and so on. Such tactics require the merger of psychology, physics, statistics, and a lot of team work. In fact, combat requires ordered arrangement and maneuver of units in a coordinated manner in order to convert combat power into victorious battles. In such cases, it is evident that the military formation has a very vital role to play in making one prepared and instinctive to face such situations. In

Analysis of Literary Criticism about Oranges of Gary Soto Research Paper
Analysis of Literary Criticism about Oranges of Gary Soto - Research Paper Example In his narrative, the poet actually steps in adolescence when he buys something for her girl by taking a chance. He offers an orange and a nickel to the saleslady for the bar of chocolate that the girl chooses. This is a critical point in the life of the boy and the climax in the poem because it creates uncertainty whether the saleslady will accept it or not. Once his offer is accepted, the boy comes out of the superstore triumphantly and enjoys his time with the girl. Although his courage is impressive, the risk was also a safe and intelligent bet: If the saleslady had refused to honor his orange for payment, he would still have the two oranges to share with the girl on their way home. Either way, he proves himself and impresses the girl which was the goal in the first place, and he is rewarded for his bravery by being allowed to hold her hand on the walk home. (White, 123) The poem is divided into two parts- before and after going in the superstore. The tone of the poem and the att itude of the boy have drastically changed. The tension or coldness between them is replaced by warmth and the scenery transforms dramatically. ââ¬Å"Someone might have thought/ I was making a fire in my hands.â⬠(55-56) the poetââ¬â¢s wish has been granted and suddenly the dullness of December as signified by fog and old coats is brightened up with the oranges. The color of orange stands out sharply in contrast to gray December; in fact it even looks like fire. Fire is the antithesis of frost, which was mentioned in the first part of the poem. Frost and crackling ice represent the absence of emotions or passions; but by the end of the poem, the boy earned warmth which is represented by the color of the oranges. In the first part of the poem, when the boy is entering the superstore, he notices a ââ¬Å"used car lotâ⬠(18) which represents emptiness and stillness. The emotional state of the boy is empty and still. This condition is transformed in the second part of the p oem where ââ¬Å"A few cars hissing pastâ⬠(43) denote the movement or transition in the stage of life of the boy. He moves on in life without looking back at it with awkwardness, as he ââ¬Å"finds a new sense of confidence and independence.â⬠(White, 121) The poetic language used in the poem is simple and based on a trivial, everyday experience of a young boy. The language is also kept simple because it is stored in the memory of a person, when he was young- merely 12 years old. His memories are captured in a rather simple manner that makes it easy for the readers to compare or relate their experiences with his. Imagery and symbolism are used extensively by Soto to describe the entire scenery and situation. The boy recalls his vivid memories of walking for the first time with a girl. This shows how important it is for anyone at this age to feel love for the first time. The poet is aware of the external scenes and captures them in his memory- he is aware of all the sights and sounds of the gray December and slowly he starts noticing the various colors that light up his mood and his surroundings. The yellow light in the porch, the color of rouge on the cheeks of the girl, newly planted trees are some of the things that visually describe the scenery. Apart from this, sound imagery also brings to life the entire scene to the readers, as they read the phrases: Frost cracking; a dog barked; the tiny bell; and a few

Communication Barriers Essay Example for Free
Communication Barriers Essay Environmental factors can affect the communication between the older adult and the nurse (Ruan Lambert, 2007). Some of these factors provided by older adults included not being familiar with the hospital floor, dark rooms, loud noises, the amount of patients needing attention (especially when their illness is severe), visitors and family and the age difference between the older adult and the nurse (Ruan Lambert, 2007). The age difference could potentially make a patient feel as though they have very little in common with the nurse (Ruan Lambert, 2007). It is important that nurses recognize these environmental factors because of the significance of the nurse and patient relationship. Nurse Barriers Four key barriers that impact the patient and nurse relationship are recognized in the results of a questionnaire research project (Ruan Lambert, 2007). The four barriers include ââ¬Å"working without a sincere attitude, showing no respect to elderly patients, being unfriendly, and transferring a sense of hopelessness to the patientâ⬠(Ruan Lambert, 2007). Ruan and Lambert (2007) continue by mentioning that nurseââ¬â¢s focus more on the communication aspects of physical activity, whereas the patients are more attracted to the physical process of verbal communication. Patient Barriers Three key barriers are established throughout the results of the questionnaire. These results include ââ¬Å"not trusting the nurse, being hearing-impaired, and pretending to understandâ⬠(Ruan Lambert, 2007). The number one barrier of communication differs between the nurses and the older adults. The nurses listed the top barrier to be because the patient is not feeling well and forgets things easily, whereas the patients identified the top barrier to be related to hearing difficulties (Ruan Lambert, 2007). Resources Understanding the risks involving communication barriers, it is important to be aware of the resources available to give patients the holistic care that they deserve. McCabe (2004) asserted, ââ¬Å"Patient-centered communication has been shown to promote patientsââ¬â¢ satisfaction with care, as well as their health statusâ⬠(as cited in Ruan and Lambert, 2008). Mui et al. (2007) state if an individual is not fluent in the language provided by the Health Care Provider it may cause feelings of humiliation and result in not seeking health care. According to ED Management (2012) language support for patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) is obligatory by law if the hospital obtains federal funds. It is suggested that a professional interpreter be present throughout the care of a client to minimize the communication barriers that could result in negative consequences (ED Management, 2012). If the professional interpreter services are not available, insufficient clarification and comprehension can be considered prejudiced towards those in which donââ¬â¢t use English as a first language (Mui et al., 2007). Another resource available would be providing the patient with a social worker to further their care. This would allow the social worker to assess additional needs of medical care, mental health, and other services available (Mui et al., 2007). Additionally, Mui et al. (2007) states that the social workers can access other organizations that could provide the professional interpreter. Having a family member involved in the care of the patient allows for improved communication. Badger, Clarke, Pumphry, and Clifford (2012) suggest that family members take the time to write down words and phrases in both their preferred language along with English to assist in communication when the family is not available. In several situations when a professional interpreter is not available, the family will be asked to interpret to provide the health care professionals with more accurate communication (Badger et al., 2012). Northern Health provides an interpreter service in which you request through your general practitioner when you book an appointment (Northern Health, 2013). The Transcultural and Language Services Department (TALS) provide interpreting services, translation of medical content, along with research and education (Northern Health, 2013). Application of Personal Experience After further research, there are several actions that I will do differently when working with a client that uses English as a second language. I strongly believe that professional translation services must always be available in our health care system despite the need for funding. Reviewing the data related to the number of older adults that use English as a second language, it is essential that translation services be implemented. With this knowledge, I will provide my patient with the information regarding a professional interpreter and see if that is an option they would want involved in their care. Included in the information I would provide to the patient would be that ââ¬Å"addressing language needs of older immigrants would reduce linguistic disparities, improve access to health care, and eventually improve the health statusâ⬠(Kim et al., 2011). I believe that providing education on the reasons why this resource would be beneficial to their overall health and care would allow the patient to find it more incising rather than feeling humiliated. It is my responsibility as a student nurse to provide additional resources in which are out of my scope of support in order to give the best holistic care for the patient. Delivering information to the patient on the further resources that social workers are able to access may draw further interest to the patient. I feel that involving a social worker would be beneficial to anyoneââ¬â¢s care despite the reasoning for being in the hospital. For example, the research provided stated that older adults tend to not reach out to health care resources because they feel humiliated. Providing a social worker would then allow further care whether it involved health care needs, financial assistance, or the use of an interpreter.
Human Resource Management in the Global Financial Crisis
Human Resource Management in the Global Financial Crisis What is Consumer Behavior? Consumer behavior is basic study of decision making process; when, where, what, how to buy and not to buy. It involves psychology, sociology and economics. It also duties individuals demographics and variable peoples wants. Consumer behavior is very much dependent on internal and external factors. Internal factors are self-needs and wants of individuals whereas external factors are financial resources and many others like psychological, demographic and social factors (Schiffman, 2009). Global Financial Crisis has changed consumer behavior. It was triggered by liquidity shortfall in banking system of United States of America due to overvaluation of assets in year 2007- to date. Global Financial Crisis has great impact on consumer behavior. The impact of Global Financial Crisis can be observed on the spending pattern of individual and as well as of a business. Global Financial Crisis is a major force that has impact on emotional and mental behavior of consumer. Businesses have identified and understand that how consumers testament react to difficult system conditions within different cultures and political economy. The current crisis is having severe impact on consumer behavior. In this juncture the user s fearfulness of the future strongly impacts their behavior and is hard to overcome (Perriman, 2009). Global Financial Crisis Impact on Human Resources Global Financial Crisis is a three words phrase. It has fictitious a salient profile throughout the existence s economies over a very shortstop period of time. For human Recourses fractionators and people managers, the global financial crisis had and impact in a number of areas as consumer spending decreased, and businesses began to look as way to cut costs in response to reduced income. Recruitment and Selection was in many ways an early causality, job advertisements shrunk across the board and remuneration, especially executive remuneration, was put under the microscope. Because everything in business affects everything else, each of these changes has repercussions for human resources departments, especially in continuing to attract and retain talented staff without which many enterprises lose their competitive advantage (Wilson, 2009). Global Financial Crisis has made organizations to respond to these human resources issues as matters of strategy, how to retain talented and key employees. Human Resources will need to maintain the balance of retaining key talent and reducing labor cost as well as managing the flow-on impacts on remuneration. Remuneration arrangements will be impacted for executives and through the negotiation of employment agreements. This will serve up to having need of human resources to take a more generally based role, harmonizing the money-making needs of the organization with the kind of traditions and people needed to make sure the sustainability and good corporate citizenship of the business. Human resources has not credit or sole rights on the principle of the business and the sort of traditions that are required within an organization, but it is an ideal opportunity for the human resources function to take a position on influencing a balance in what is right for all stakeholders to the org anization. Global Financial Crisis has made performance management focal point for the organization. Organizations are focusing on talent management in order to retain key employees. Such practices adopted by the organizations will improve the performance measurement and the performance review of all the individuals (Wilson, 2009). Human Resources Management Human Resources Management is considered to be the essence of every management function. Human resources management is a strategic and logical approach to the management of a system within an organization and that is the most valuable assets human resources. Human Resources Planning posits the right number of people at the right place and at the right time. A common knowledge of human resources is staffing which is the most critical function for the success of an organization. To proactively respond to the replacements of recent turnovers as well as upsizing the caliber of talent and therefore increasing the capability of the company by means of adding new competencies set, strategic recruitment and selection is the key (Nelson 1997). Implications in Term of Recruitment and Selection Recruitment and selection of employees is considered to be the most sensitive function of human resources management. Recruitment and selection are boundary less functions of the organizations. An effective recruitment process follows these steps; job definition, job specification, job description, designing recruitment and selection process. Selection is the other side of recruitment and selection process. Selection process answers a basic question that what is required by the job. It is the responsibility of the recruiter to take out the best. Recruitment and selection brings stability to an organization by attracting and hiring talented workers. Human Resources demonstrate the value-added nature of its role. HR professionals are finding way to maximize the value-added cost of recruitments and selection while at the same time minimizing overall expenditure. This change of view has led to greater awareness of the costs of inadequacies and errors, productivity losses, high turnover, worker errors and accidents, severed relationships with clients and suppliers, and lost business. Another trend that has a big impact on the recruitment and selection activity is the increasing competition for talented workers. During recruitment and selection, aiming at diversity must be considered because a diverse workforce serves as a resource rather than a threat. This is a capacity-building strategy evident in range of talents, experience and knowledge insight (Richardson, 2006). Role of Human Resources Management in Crisis Human resources management plays a vital and strategic role in the survival of an organization. In this time of global financial crisis, human resources management must not only innovate but must also act as change agents, strategists, mentors, counselors and motivators. Human Resources management must adopt a people-centered model of management instead of the go-get-them approach. The latter approach will not only push down the morale of your employees but it will also shove your talented workers from leaving your organization. Retaining Key Employees Retaining the right and key employees is a crucial challenge for any human resources manager. Employees are considered to be the most important asset within an organization. In troubled, economic condition, human resources managers must develop a strategy that will keep the most talented employees in your organization and at the same time, discouraged the not-so employees from hurting the companys operations. The global crisis is pushing companies to stretch their financial resources to buffer the effects of limited income as a result of the sharp decline in the demand of their products and services. Efficiency is the key to the survival of any company in this kind of economic condition. Running the company at the least possible cost should be the priority of management. In order to achieve that, companies must keep a pool of competent employees that will help the organization in pushing their sales, expanding their market, innovating new products and in keeping the operations efficient as possible. Employees that are causing too much wastage should be encouraged to be more productive and their financial contribution to the company must be at par with the salaries they are receiving. We are not saying that we should put a price tag on every employee, but we should also remember that business organizations are not synonymous to charitable institutions. Income is always their lifeblood, per iod. With this, HR managers should always find a way to motivate this type of employees, either through training or coaching, before making any drastic actions like transfers, demotions or terminations (Raman, 2006) Effective Employee Retention Strategies Sharp and smart managers for all time understand the significance of retaining the best employees on board. It is a fact that, retention of key employees is significant for the success of any organization in the long run. The basic reason behind retaining a key employee is the performance of those employees which is frequently has a great link with the quality work, customer satisfaction, and even to the image of a company. Finding a Cause Possibly, there are many causes which make an employee to leave the organization and global financial crisis could be the main reason. What can be done? It is impossible though, to scrap all the problems totally but there are certain way outs by which organizations can handle such situations. Human resources department can address such issues along with the help of top management to evolve strategies to retain key employees at all the level. At the time of Recruitment Select the right people through competency screening. Offer an attractive, competitive, benefits package. Make clear of performance enhanced incentives and other benefits. Keep these promises, later. At the Office Work of an employee must be communicated clearly for example job details, time limit, any change made to these let the employees know about it as soon as possible. Employees must be provided necessary tools and equipment to complete a task. Training must be provided. Training and development of employees at work place is essential. Provide the employees a stress free work environment. People want to enjoy their work. Make work and work place cheerful and pleasant as possible. Make sure that employees know that their work is important for the organization. Feeling valued by their employer is the key to high employee motivation and morale. Recognize their strengths and help them to improve those they lack. Offer excellent career growth prospects. Encourage groom employees to take up higher positions/openings. If they dont get opportunity for growth within the organization, they will look elsewhere for it. Implement competency models, which are well integrated, with HR processes like selection recruitments, training, performance appraisal and potential appraisal (Raman, 2006). Training and Development and Career Planning It has become turmoil and uncertain during the recent global financial crisis that human resources managers think in many ways before investing in workplace, training and development of the employees, soft skills programs. The prospect of investing in a workforce and which has the potential to drop off or even decreased their purchasing choices in terms of training and development. The fact of the matter is that this Global Problem calls for even stronger measures to be put into place to ensure that Workplaces all over the world, can withstand these tough times. It is exactly this sort of climate which will determine what businesses will prosper and even flourish due to past and ongoing investment in the Training and Development of staff as well as the all important Risk Management measures that have been out into place. The investment in Human Capital and Comprehensive Retention Career Planning and Risk Management Strategies will determine which businesses are more vulnerable to market economic volatility (James L., and Debra J. Mesch 1995). Strategic Human Resources Management Global Financial Crisis has made organizations to think strategically. Strategic management of organizations (SHRM) has greater concentration on various functions of human resources management. Strategic management is an art of formulation and implementation of various functions in order to achieve its goals and objective. Strategic human resources management is the prototype of planned human resources deployment and activities intends to enable an organization to achieve its goals and objective. Especially when it comes to bad financial position strategic management process is in practice whenever there is financial crisis and or bad economic situation through out the business world. Strategic human resources management will need to show that careful planning of the people issues will make it substantially easier for the organization to achieve its wider strategic and operational goals during the global financial crisis (Asyali, 2007) Conclusion As they say, happiness can be contagious. So make sure the work place is a happy one, which every employee would love to spend time. Human resources department along with senior management must take steps to make sure of this. Effective human resource management must be practiced at both strategic and day-to-day levels. HR management practices must reflect company policy as to how it will manage and relate to its employees. The HR strategy should evolve from a transactional support role to partnering in the organizations business strategy. HR must take steps to be aware of employee problems and try to solve them, creatively. According to the recent studies, organizations are responding to the global financial crisis according to the changes in economic environment which are directly and indirectly effecting their operations and organizations are aligning their HR strategies to their business strategies. The downturn has increased peoples desire for simplicity and has forced consumers to question their beliefs and attitudes as well.

Sam Rayburn :: Essays Papers
Sam Rayburn Samuel "Sam" Taliaferro Rayburn was born in Tennessee in 1882. He was the eighth of 11 children. When Sam was 5 he moved west with his family to a 40-acre cotton farm just outside the small community of Flag Springs, Texas. At the age of 18, Sam left the family farm and went to East Texas Normal College in Commerce. His father sent him off with $25 and he added to that by sweeping school rooms, ringing the class bell and building fires in school stoves. After a year of college, he paid debts and earned more money teaching in Greenwood, Texas. He then returned to Commerce and finished his three-year degree in two years. Sam first ran for public office in 1906 when he was elected to the Texas House of Representatives. While serving in the legislature, he attended and graduated from law school at the University of Texas in Austin. After two terms as State Representative, Sam was reelected to serve as speaker of the Texas House. He was only 29 at this time. In 1912, Sam ran for the U.S. House of Representatives. After winning that election, he, as a Democrat never again faced a Republican opponent. During his 48 years in the House, Rayburn served as minority leader for four years, majority leader for three years, and speak for 17 years. Even though he was a Democrat for life, he tended to be more moderate on most issues and he was never afraid to be independent or cut across party lines about any specific issue. This earned him respect from both sides of the House floor. His legislative accomplishments include authorship of the Truth in Securities Act of 1933 and the Railroad Holding Company Bill. A year after those he authored bills that created the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Federal Communications Commission. In 1935, he co-authored the Rural Electrification Act, which helped to bring electricity to most rural homes in America. As Democratic majority leader, Sam Rayburn guided President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal programs through the U.S. House. On the personal side, Sam Rayburn was briefly married to Metze Jones, the sister of Rep. Marvin Jones of Amarillo. They were married in October of 1927 and divorced about 10 weeks later. On November 16, 1961, Samuel Rayburn died from cancer of the pancreas.

A Student Compares Websites on Rally Racing :: Sell Websites Buy Web Sites
A Student Compares Websites on Rally Racing The sport of rallying is fast becoming popular around the world. With races taking place on countries around the world, the internet is an invaluable resource to fans around the globe. The official site of the World Rally Championship (WRC) can be found at www.wrc.com. There are other unofficial sites such as, www.worldrally.net, and www.worldrallynews.com. All three of these sites provide information regarding the many races, drivers, and teams. Although they have similar information, the exact information that is provided, and the format in which they are delivered are different. This paper will discuss the similarities and differences between the websites, as well as the effectiveness of the websites in presenting their information in a sensible and enjoyable manner. First, a little information about the WRC. Perhaps one of the most demanding racing sports, the WRC consists of cars racing over courses in some of the most breathtaking locations around the world. From Japan, to Greece to Finland, the races take place in over 15 countries. What sets the WRC apart is the physical location of the races. There are few paved roads, or nicely banked curves. Most of the driving is done ââ¬Å"off-road.â⬠This means that the conditions are extremely varied, from gravel to rocks, rain, snow, anything is fair game. Because of this, the teams must evaluate the course and choose the proper car parts to use. The courses are not a straight line either. They wind back and forth, up and down over different surfaces. To aid the driver, a co-driver rides shotgun, giving out commands that let the driver know what lies ahead. The cars are timed against each other, but not run along side each other. Many of the courses are only wide enough for a single car to pass through at a time. Thus, the cars are sent out in intervals, and the resulting times measured against each other after completion. With this background on the WRC, letââ¬â¢s examine the different web sites that provide information about this sport to its fans. World Rallying (www.worldrally.net), is a second rate website at best. When the page is first loaded up, there is a blinking add at the top of the screen which greatly detracts from the rest of the site.
Hamlet as a Tragic Hero
As we know, there are different types of tragedies; Aristotle spoke about a certain type which involves what was once called Peripeteia, Hamartia and Anagnorisis. He said a tragedy is characterized by a tragic hero or heroine who experiences a change or reversal in fortune (peripeteia) which is caused by a personal flaw or mistake (hamartia). The downfall of the hero in a tragedy should not be, however, caused by an external force such as a higher power, whether in the form of gods, fate or even society; it should be the result of an actionââ¬âor lack of actionââ¬âcarried out by the hero. Finally, the hero must achieve a kind of revelation or recognition (anagnorisis) about destiny or the will of the gods, what Aristotle called ââ¬Å"a change from ignorance to awareness of a bond of love or hate. â⬠These are all characteristics that make an ideal Greek tragedy. However, our purpose is to analyze William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s ââ¬ËHamletââ¬â¢, a Renaissance tragedy; therefore, the question at hand is, could Hamlet, prince of Denmark, possibly be called and defined as a tragic hero? Our first instinct is to say no, but once we start questioning ourselves and really exploring the character and all that he goes through throughout the play, our answers may change. In ââ¬ËHamletââ¬â¢ the three defining moments in Greek tragedy mentioned above, if truly present, are intertwined and closely linked together. We will attempt to translate those key aspects present in Aristotleââ¬â¢s description into a completely different type of tragedy such as ?Hamletââ¬â¢ and see how they would portray themselves in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s words. Afterwards, we will analyze this English writerââ¬â¢s work in terms of the imagery found in the play at hand. We must begin at the core of the play: the apparition of the ghost. Before the ghost of the former king of Denmark, Hamlet senior, makes his appearance, all we know is that Hamletââ¬â¢s father has passed away, that his uncle has taken the throne and has married his late brotherââ¬â¢s wife. Once we hear the ghostââ¬â¢s statement the plot of the play is set in motion; Hamlet goes from ignorance to knowledgeââ¬âthat is, if we choose to believe that there actually is a ghost and that the ghost speaks the truth. The spirit tells the prince of Denmark that he was murdered and by none other than his own brother; we could take this as the princeââ¬â¢s moment of recognition, when, in a way, his whole destiny changes. He now has a new purpose in life, to avenge his fatherââ¬â¢s death. The bond of love and affection he felt for his uncle is now completely distorted and turned into pure hatred, anger and a thirst for revenge. The next step in our analysis is our ââ¬Ëtragic heroââ¬â¢sââ¬â¢ change in fortune. As we know, Hamletââ¬â¢s plan was to get back at his uncle, and in Act III, Scene III he has the perfect opportunity when he walks in on Claudius praying, My fault is past. But O, what form of prayer Can serve my turn? ââ¬ËForgive me my foul murder? ââ¬â¢ That cannot be, since I am still possessââ¬â¢d Of those effects for which I did the murderââ¬â My crown, mine own ambition and my queen. May one be pardonââ¬â¢d and retain the offence? Hamlet, however, hesitates and decides not to kill Claudius while in prayer because he would go to heaven, thus his desire for vengeance would not be satisfied. To take him in the purging of his soul, When he is fit and seasonââ¬â¢d for passage? No. Up, sword, and know thou a more horrid hent. What Hamlet was not aware of was that Claudius was not asking for forgiveness because, as he says, the reasons for which he committed the murder, his ambition and his desire for the crown and the queen, still possess him, therefore he does not regret what he did. My words fly up, my thoughts remain below. Words without thoughts never to heaven go. From this point forward everything just goes downhill. Hamlet missed his one shot all because of his lack of action. Here is where we introduce the final piece of our analysis. Hamletââ¬â¢s tragic flaw could be his indecisiveness on how to proceed and carry out his plans or maybe his procrastination; whatever it is, he made a conscious mistake which made him completely responsible for later events, his death, Laertesââ¬â¢, his motherââ¬â¢s and Opheliaââ¬â¢s. The prince ultimately brought about his own downfall. ââ¬ËHamletââ¬â¢, as a tragedy, certainly differs from the Greek mold, but it is safe to say that not entirely. I believe Shakespeareââ¬â¢s character could be considered as a sort of tragic hero if we choose to associate events the way we have throughout this paper. Of course, there is no way to determine whether or ot Hamlet truly is a tragic hero such as Aristotle meant to depict them, it is all subjective. In my opinion, the idea is not too overreaching or farfetched; I actually think it is a valid way of analyzing this most interesting character. Our other purpose was to analyze the imagery, and most specifically the nature im agery, found in the play. In ââ¬ËHamletââ¬â¢, Shakespeare seems to rely on nature (plants, weather, animals, etc. ) a lot to express what the characters are feeling. When it comes to analyzing specifically how he thought of the state and the people of Denmark, one word is key: weeds. The weed is defined as ââ¬Å"A plant considered undesirable, unattractive, or troublesome, especially one growing where it is not wanted, as in a garden. â⬠During the time of late King Hamletââ¬â¢s rule, Denmark was considered, as prince Hamlet calls it in Act I Scene II, ââ¬Å"an unweeded gardenâ⬠; however, once Claudius murders his brother the king and takes the crown, his sin, greed and corruption bring decay to the kingdom. ââ¬Å"Something is rotten in the state of Denmarkâ⬠states Marcellus in Act I, Scene IV. The weed is the symbol of death and poison in Denmark. Claudius poisoned Hamletââ¬â¢s father and is now poisoning everybody else with his deceit. Later on in Act III, Scene IV, while talking to his mother Hamlet says, Whiles rank corruption, mining all within, Infects unseen. Confess yourself to heaven, Repent whatââ¬â¢s past, avoid what is to come, And do not spread the compost on the weeds, To make them ranker. He is telling her to open her eyes and realize how her new king is infecting their country; he then asks her not to keep helping him in doing soââ¬ânot to spread the compost on the weeds anymore. We can say, without a doubt, that throughout the whole play Shakespeare refers to the state of Denmark and its people as if they were a garden. Understanding the nature imagery in ââ¬ËHamletââ¬â¢ is essential to understanding the true meaning behind the play. Denmark used to be a beautiful, healthy garden until its gardener was poisoned; when there was suddenly a new gardener the earth and the plants started dying and nobody did anything to fix it. The subtle way in which Shakespeare is able to use metaphor and simile over and over again in his works without it getting tedious or discouraging is probably one of the reasons why he is considered the greatest writer in the English language.
